Great Stone Face Rock

Great Stone Face Rock is a natural outcrop which has long been the logo and symbol for the Town of Pennington Gap. Folklore says that the face was carved by Cherokee Indians honoring their chief at the time. The name of the Chief is unknown. Others believe that the face has evolved over time by wind and rain.

The best view is just north of 7300 HWY 421N, looking south. This outcrop is high above the North Fork of Powell River with the railroad through the mountain below and is lit at night.

Overlook the GSFR from trails and overlooks on Stone Mountain ATV Trail, more info at www.spearheadtrails.com.
